Karen is a Brisbane based artist who grew up immersed in rural life on properties in South Australia and later in South-West Queensland. This experience provided an incredible amount of freedom, the feeling of which she now strives to express through her art.
Karen was inspired to create from an early age by her mother who was a talented landscape artist. Some of her earliest art memories are of filling countless sketchbooks with detailed drawings of people and horses. These days her paintings are much more expressive and she finds herself more interested in capturing a feeling rather than a likeness. "It has been a long journey in learning to let go of controlling the creative process. I love the freedom of not having a plan and letting the artwork create its own path".
In addition to being an artist, Karen is a counsellor in private practice. This experience often informs the underlying themes of her work in exploring the tangible and intangible aspects of human emotion.
